Following his unexpected and ridiculous remarks on Cubs’ reliever Pedro Strop during MLB Network’s telecast of the Cubs-Cardinals game on Friday night, announcer Bob Costas has stated that he will apologize to Strop in person on Sunday.
The comments came after Strop was pulled in the 8th inning, after recording just one out while allowing a run, and putting two more hitters on base.
“The tone of it was not what I intended. I intended it as a kind of sarcastic comment about this overall thing where everybody seems to be pointing toward the heavens for every accomplishment, large and small, or even for no accomplishment at all,” Costas said. “I inadvertently appeared harsh toward Strop. That wasn’t my intention. And so I owe him an apology. And I will apologize to him (on Sunday).”
The Cubs-Cardinals conclude their three-game series on Sunday night.
