In the aftermaths of two Texas high school football players targeting a referee during a play after accusing him of saying racist things and blowing calls, fellow high school players from all over are using that as an example.
This past week, a player from Glencliff High School in Tennessee followed suit and was seen tackling a ref.
The ref, Kyle Gill, spoke to the Gallatin News afterwards and claimed that the player, Malcolm Easley, delivered the hit intentionally.
“I think it’s pretty obvious what went down,” Gill said.
Gill said that he had spoken to Easley just prior to the play.
“I had spoken to the player on the play before and he told me that I was in his way,” Gill said. “I asked him how long he’d been playing football and he had to realize that the referees are part of the field. I told him that he should have to avoid me and not the other way around. On the very next play, you saw what happened.”
Easley has been suspended from the team, indefinitely. He’s also the son of the head coach.
