Micronesian National Soccer Team Gives Up 114 Goals In 3 Games During 2016 Olympic Qualifying

You may have never heard Micronesia, a small country comprised of islands that lay in the western Pacific Ocean near Polynesia. Their National soccer team that is currently ranked 200 in the world by FIFA, and they have high hopes of qualifying for the 2016 Olympics…until they actually started playing the matches.

In their first game at the 2015 Pacific Games, Micronesia lost 30-0 to Tahiti. Then, they lost 38-0 to Fiji, and finally, 46-0 to Vanuatu. In the three games combined, they were outscored 114-0.

There are no videos of any of the games.

So how in the world could a National team be so bad? According to the Micronesia coach, most of the players have never even played organized soccer before.

“It’s just so hard at this early stage – this is kindergarten for us,” he said. “We have to learn and to know that we go back we have to train harder and learn more skills.

“Most of these have never been out of their villages let alone on to another island. I took them to Guam the other day [and it was] the first time they’ve been on an elevator or an escalator. It’s been a huge step-up for these guys and they’ve just been overawed really.”

They look like the Bad News Bears of soccer.
