Amid all the chaos the Sacramento Kings have been through in the past few weeks, they seem content on digging themselves into a deeper hole, by talking and attempting to sway John Calipari into taking over as their head coach and GM.
According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings are trying to salvage their George Karl-DeMarcus Cousins relationship throwing huge amounts of money, and potential power for Cousins’ former college coach.
‘Calipari has been communicating with owner Vivek Ranadive and other members of the Kings’ ownership group in recent weeks, league sources said. Calipari has listened to scenarios with which the Kings could offer him complete control of the franchise’s fledgling basketball operations to go along with coaching, league sources said.
No formal offer has been made to Calipari, and Kings ownership understands that it will take a multiyear financial package of $10 million-plus annually to get Calipari to seriously consider leaving Kentucky, sources said.’
Not only would this mean the end of Karl’s run, which has only lasted up to four months at this point, but also the end former Kings’ great Vlade Divac’s role as GM, after just two months.
On the other hand, Calipari has spoken about this alleged rumor, emphasizing that he’s staying at Kentucky.
For the 100th time, I have the best basketball coaching position in the world. I am not looking for any other coaching position.

Surely, there will be more to come.
